When this song by Antigone Rising is performed live, it always stirs the emotions. For the band and for the audience. Michael was written by founding member Kristen Henderson (with the help of a very special friend, Diane Scanlon). To quote Kristen from the booklet in the From The Ground Up album, “I have a hard time with this song. It’s a song about my friend Michael who was killed tragically in a car accident. I had a really hard time dealing with it. This song helps me keep Mike alive, and I’m just happy about that.” For anyone that has lost someone and wishes things could be changed, while “trying hard to understand”, this song strikes a chord. It’s honest and touching.
In the video above, lead singer Nini Camps takes Kristen’s lyrics and helps you feel them. With lead guitarist Cathy Henderson and drummer Dena Tauriello, joining Kristen on rhythm guitar, this song comes to life. You can get this audio recording for free on Antigone Rising’s web site.
